The Great Lakes Theatre Festival production of Shakespeare's The Taming of the Shrew will play from March 17 through April 2 at the Ohio Theatre. Director Michael Breault, who has chosen to set the play in the 1920s, says, “Education is the principal metaphor in Shrew and Shakespeare brilliantly employs the various elements of education-teachers and pupils, lessons and lecturers and morals-to discuss the notion of love." Performances are on TuesdaySaturday at 8 pm, with 1:30 pm matinees on March 20, 23 and 27. Ticket prices range from $16-$28. Preview tickets on March 17 and 18 are $15. A limited number of halfprice Quick Tix are available at the box office at 5 pm on the day of the performance. $5 student tickets are available at the box office

Dobama Theatre is presenting the world premiere of Power in the Blood by Sarah E. Bewley. The play, set in the South, follows the journey of a young boy who has been "sold" to a religious huckster. The familiar journey of greed and exploitation takes an unusual turn as the boy's sincerity and gifts of healing lead the con man to a spiritual transformation. The production, directed by Jane Armitage, continues through March 27, Thursday-Saturday at 8 pm, Sunday at 7:30 pm, except for March 27 which will be at 2:30 pm. Ticket prices are $7-$10 with discounts for students and seniors. The $3 Neighborhood Night is March 13. For reservations call 932-6838.

Ensemble Theatre is presenting Martin Jones' Vanishing Points, a play inspired by the 1972 murders of artist Elizabeth Peak's father, mother and sister. The central figure in the play is a young artist who deals with her grief and horror through her art, which, in turn, affects the people around her. Performances continue through April 2, Friday and Saturday at 8 pm, Sunday March 13 at 3:30 pm, and March 20 and 27 at 7:30 pm. Tickets are $12 and $14; call 321-2930.
The Working Theatre is bringing us the U.S. premiere of Tony Harrison's The Mysteries: The Passion (Part II), a modern adaptation of the medieval mystery cycle of playlets that tell the story of Christ's passion. The production, directed by Chuck Ritchie, is in modern dress and uses popular and folk music in an attempt to capture the vitality of these plays which combine humor with the faith of the common people. The Repertory Project
Northern Ohio's only modern dance repertory company is set to present its seventh annual spring concert, "retro/Active," March 16-21. The choreography of national and regional artists will be featured in a program that includes The Patrooka Variations: Conspiracies of the Seduced by Doug Elkins, which features a new trio; Beat by Mark Dendy; The Bench Quartet by Doug Varone; Vignettes by Albert Reid; and Repercussion by Cheryl Wallace.
A new solo, The Reremember, choreographed by James Sewell, which explores the emotional remembrance of a past love, will also be presented.

Karamu Performing Arts Theatre is presenting the 2nd Annual R. Joyce Whitely Festival of New Plays through March 27. The Repertory Project's Ellen Ressler Hoffman performs James Sewell's The Reremember.
The Repertory Project, founded in 1987, is directed by Susan Miller and consists of dancers Gail Friedberg, Mary Jo Hodgkinson, Ellen Ressler Hoffman, and Darcie Robbins. The spring concert will be held at the Cleveland State University Dance Studio, lower level of the Physical Education building at East 24th and Euclid (behind Fenn Tower). Performance times are at 8 pm on March 16, 17, 18, 19 and 21, and also at 2 pm on Saturday, March 19.
